Bob Schaffer: Last year's Republican

Bob Schaffer (born 1962), last year's Republican Election 2008
Bob Schaffer's Republican incivility: On KFKA's Amy Oliver Show, Schaffer said Senate leaders are "hoping America loses" Iraq war (29-Aug-07), Colorado Media Matters [progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the Colorado media], online at colorado.mediamatters.org (accessed 30-Aug-07).

Fort Collins resident and former U.S. House of Representatives congressman from the 4th district in Colorado, Bob Schaffer, understands 1990s Republican politics: Smear your opponent in the most vile, uncivil way (and praise Jesus while you do it).

Schaffer served in the House from 1997-2003 and is now running for the Senate. True to his 1990s Republican breed, Bob Schaffer actually said of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid:
[P]eople like Harry Reid and other, others who are leading the Senate right now, that I think are trying to, at the end, the analysis of their achievement and what they are effectively accomplishing is a deliberate loss and a surrender in Iraq for the sake of their political advantage at election time in 2008. I think they're hoping America loses.
That assertion, Mr. Schaffer, is reprehensible. It personifies the 1990s Republican politics of questioning your opponent's motives, rather than your opponent's positions. If you, Mr. Schaffer, have nothing more to offer to Coloradoans than the polarizing politics of the 1990s, then you are not the man to represent us in the Senate in the 2010s.
