{ right-wing Christian motif } What is it with right-wing Christians and the human knuckle?

As For Me And My House (right-wing Christian commercial art) by Robert Grace, 1992 Ted Haggard (born 1956) Fundamentalism
Draggin' the line

Check out the illustration to the far left, entitled As For Me And My House by Robert Grace. You can't help but notice the clenched fingers and exaggerated knuckles of the praying man (a pose for the hands that Grace does not use when portraying the fawning wife and reverential child). Amazingly, in the photograph of Ted Haggard to the right, Ted assumes a similar pose accentuating the knuckles.

This must be a right-wing Christian mudrā signifying earnestness or supplication or something, but why have only right-wing Christians adopted it, and when did that happen? Are women permitted to assume this hand gesture, or do only men display their knuckles to the Lord?
