Encouraging newspapers to communicate better: Erin Teeling (14-Aug-07), Top 10 best newspaper websites, The Bivings Report [a blog by The Bivings Group, which is a Washington, DC-based internet communications firm (i.e., public relations firm) that develops web programs for corporate and nonprofit clients], online at bivingsreport.com (accessed 21-Aug-07).
Most newspaper sites are painfully bad, unimaginatively filled-to-overflowing with ads and saddled with poor navigation, a marginal search engine and the impulse to lock-up content after it's a week old. (And yet, newspapers wonder why they're loosing readers.) This survey of the ten best newspaper sites shows us it doesn't have to be so. Here's the list:
01. New York Times, New York City
02. Washington Post, Washington D.C.
03. USA Today, headquartered in McLean, Virginia
04. Houston Chronicle, Houston, Texas
05. Denver Post, Denver, Colorado
06. Knoxville News Sentinel, Knoxville, Tennessee
07. Fresno Bee, Fresno, California
08.
09. Tennessean, Nashville, Tennessee
10. San Jose Mercury News, San Jose, California
