Republican affinity for hate

Personality-based attack (updated below)
Setting history straight: dnA (15-Aug-07), Hate in the Republican Party predates Karl Rove, Too Sense [daily musings on race, music, politics and culture from the nation's capital], online at halfricanrevolution.blogspot.com (accessed 15-Aug-07).

A useful gloss on the Republican affinity for hate, both as a political position and tactic. It's not something that started with Rove. Or Gingrich.

"'Hate filled niche campaigning' as a Republican strategy predates Karl Rove and George W. Bush. Hate filled niche campaigning? That was Newt Gingrich's stock in trade, and it's a big part of what won Republicans the Congress in 1994."

UPDATE: For a recent example from Colorado of how Republicans deploy the scurrilous smear against those with whom they disagree, see my blog article from August 30, 2007: Bob Schaffer: Last year's Republican.
